1. Scripture (only 7 verses)

2a. Question: Name a promise in the Bible God has made which is particularly meaningful to you.

Possible answers: "the seed of woman"/the Messiah/Salvation, "you will be with me in paradise today", John 3:16, "I will never leave nor forsake you", "Be still and know that I am your God', "I will heal your land", "I will return (Jesus's Second Coming)", etc.

2b. Question: Why is it important to remember God's promises in trying times such as in murder/rape/car crash/suffering?

Possible answers: to retain strength & comfort, to have hope, to know that God's power is greater than the forces of the darkness, too see the big picture / to have a tunnel vision, to stay faithful, because no matter what we'd need to be and live in the Word of God, etc.

3. The Skinny on Psalm 110

1) King David is the author

2) this is relatively a v short Psalm (with only 7 verses)

3) Jesus Christ literally means "Jesus the Messiah / Jesus the  God's Anointed"

4) The US in downward spiral which couldn't have been even imagined mere 15-20 years ago by many

5) Psalm 110, particularly the verse 1 is the most often quoted (11x)  psalm or a verse in the Hebrew Bible, followed by the verse 2 (9x)

6) Pslam 110 is often called "Dixit Dominus", which means "The Lord said."

7) V. 1: In Matthew 22, Jesus shows that He is greater than David:Cf. Matthew 22:41-46

8) V. 1: who is David's Lord? YHWH. (Is Jesus YHWH? You bet).

9) When Peter evangelized, and 3,000 people repented and accepted Jesus and were saved after hearing Peter's testimony, Peter quoted the verse 1:

Cf. Acts 2:45

10) Jesus through His substituionary sacrifice, death  for our sins on the cross & resurrection from the dead has made the salvation both effectual and eternal resulting in true victory by crushing the head of serpent.  Jesus  ultimately defeats His enemies, establishes the justice, and His people will be with Him forever and more.

11) Jesus is sitting on the right hand of our God as our  intercessor; He prays and advocates for us on our behalf. We'd need to be comforted in knowing that Jesus is our high priest and our advocate. The fact is that He laid down His life for us when we were His enemies.

12) V. 1: "says" actually should actually mean more like "declares" as in prophets declare; the original Hebrew word has more authoritative meaning; a declaration. Prophetic.

13) In ancient times "sitting" was often associated with/reserved for people of honor, often referring to kings

14) God has made Jesus both Lord and the Messiah: Cf. Hebrews 10-13:

Normally, a priest would be staning up (while performing his duties), but Jesus would sit down because He is not an ordinary high priest, but the King of kings. Cf. Genesis 49:8-10:

Cf. Revelation 5:5:

Also Daniel forsaw this: Daniel 7:13-14:

15) V. 4: Melchizedek, a king of Salem (Jerusalem), a king of  righteousness (Genesis 14); he was a high priest of the Most High God; Abraham gave a tithe to him upon return from a triumphant war. Melchizedek was a foreshadow of JC to come.

16) vv. 5-7: "the Lord (is) at your right hand,"; God the Father will empower the Son. The day of wrath is the Lord's Day, when God will demonstrate His justice. According to Dr. Betts, contrary to what many people believe to be the case where God is perceived to be an "angry Deity" in the OT, God's two greatest displays of wrath are in the NT;

(1) on the cross at Calvary when Jesus was crucified,

(2) when Jesus returns as the King of kings and the Lord of lords to crush His enemies and cast Satan, his demons and the damned into the lake of fire.

Yes, our Lord Jesus will be ultimately victorious as He already crushed the head of serpent at Calvary.Gives us all hope. It is a cause for worship.Messiah surely comes again! The Bible is not 66 books, but one continuous book, and each book reveals JC the Messiah to us.

**Just want to add that the  prophecies in Genesis 49:10, "the scepter will not depart from Judah..." and in Numbers 24:17, "a Star will come out of Jacob..a scepter will rise out of Israel and shall smite the corners of.." have been fulfilled through JC:
